Fluid deformation in isotropic Darcy flow

چکیده

The deformation of fluid elements governs many processes in porous media, including the transport, dispersion and mixing solutes, chemical reactions colloidal particles. Recently, it has been shown that even strongly heterogeneous steady three-dimensional (3-D) Darcy flow with isotropic hydraulic conductivity admits only constrained kinematics. This is due to its inherently helicity-free nature, as velocity everywhere orthogonal vorticity. property precludes braided streamlines instead a pair coherent 3-D streamfunctions, cannot wander freely throughout domain. In this study, we consider impact these kinematic constraints upon at scale. We show condition corresponds an streamline coordinate system, which use derive ab initio continuous time random walk framework for deformation. find combined intermittent nature shear events leads limited algebraic growth, stretching ranging from sublinear superlinear behaviour. Fluid remarkably similar two-dimensional (2-D) flow, structure fundamentally same two superposed 2-D flows. These results have implications understanding transport provide basis quantification flow.

Leaf Deformation Taking Into Account Fluid Flow

This paper proposes a method for animating leaf structural deformation considering the leaf water content and its change due to evaporation. To achieve this we embed a massspring system into a mesh representing the leaf, and couple the mass-spring parameters with a simulation representing the fluid flow and evaporation occurring in the leaf. This chain of events aims to simulate the natural pro...

Coupled fluid flow and geomechanical deformation modeling

Accurate prediction of reservoir production in structurally weak geologic areas requires both mechanical deformation and fluid flow modeling. Loose staggered-in-time coupling of two independent flow and mechanics simulators captures much of the complex physics at a substantially reduced cost. Numerical Well Model for Non Darcy Flow through Isotropic Porous Media

Upscaling non-Darcy flow

We consider upscaling of non-Darcy flow in heterogeneous porous media. Our approach extends the pressure-based numerical homogenization procedure for linear Darcy flow, due to Durlofsky, to the nonlinear case. The effective coefficients are not constants but rather mildly varying functions of prevailing gradients of pressure. The upscaled model approximates the fine grid model accurately and, i...

Approximation of Axisymmetric Darcy Flow

In this article we investigate the numerical approximation of the Darcy equations in an axisymmetric domain, subject to axisymmetric data. Rewriting the problem in cylindrical coordinates reduces the 3-D problem to a problem in 2-D. This reduction to 2-D requires the numerical analysis to be studied in suitably weighted Hilbert spaces. In this setting the Raviart-Thomas (RT) and Brezzi-Douglas-...
